Classic Game Room HD – VIRTUA FIGHTER 2 for Sega Genesis review

Classic Game Room HD reviews VIRTUA FIGHTER 2 for the Sega Genesis from 1996. This 2D version of the popular Virtua Fighter 2 is very different yet very similar to the polygon-laden Sega Saturn version. The moves are similar, as is gameplay. A few characters are missing and the visuals are dramatically different but the game still kicks virtua ass. This CGR review of Virtua Fighter 2 on Sega Genesis (aka Sega Mega Drive) has gameplay from Virtua Fighter 2 on the 16-bit Sega Genesis showing Virtua Fighter 2 gameplay in HD action. This is a one or two player 1 or player fighting game that plays with a three or six button Sega Genesis (Megadrive) controller. Virtua Fighter 2 is easy to find and lots of fun.

  7. @DesertFerret7 For …
@DesertFerret7 For giggles, if you check out the review of genesis bevis and butthead for Genesis by mn12bird here on youtube, it’s pretty amazing how well they got the voice synth on there to sound, it is almost perfect. Really worth to check out, it’s that good. I do agree with you though, the genesis sound typically is terrible for everything, compared to SNES.

  8. @zerokoolkw You …
@zerokoolkw You could then pretend the game name is not virtual fighter 2, or, for the purpose of a review, intentionally ignore the game name, and rate it entirely on its own merit. While I agree with your philosophy of not making a game if the machine cannot handle it, the fact that it is created means imo that it does deserve a proper and fair review.

This review was virtua awesome. Keep up the good work!

  10. Love these reviews …
Love these reviews but disagree with the reviewer on this one. I’m a strong believer in the phliosophy that if a console’s hardware prevents you from making a faithful port of the original arcade title, then don’t make it. To me this version is not Virtua Fighter 2, becaue the polygonal fighters and 3D-like enviroment were crucial to the game’s sucess

    Why is there voice …
Why is there voice acting in the Genesis? For SNES I can understand because its sound card is powerful than the Genesis. Though graphics look clearer on the Genesis. I didn’t know Virtua Fighter 2 was on the Genesis. If it was 3d on the Genesis it would play sluggish because the Genesis wasn’t powerful enough for 3d games. PC I can understand. Saturn is can handle 3d games well and voice acting sounds good. But the voice acting Genesis sounds like someone is talking on a broken micrphone.
