How much are ebooks on the Sony e-Reader and are classics free?

Hi, I would like to know how much ebooks cost on average for the sony e-reader, and I would also like to know whether classics are indeed free like I’ve read on forums or how much they usually are? Thank you.

New release are at least $12, and most of them are over $15 as far as I know. Old books are cheaper.

If you’re considering to buy an ebook reader, I’ll suggest you to get the Amazon Kindle. Books on it are much cheaper. A lot of new releases are $9.99… Ohter benefits of the Kindle over Sony Reader incldue free wireless and text-to-speech function. There are more ebooks you can find available for the Kindle too. Here are some good comparison between them:

  1. New books are pretty pricey. $15 or so. Older books are about $7.95. Usually the reader comes with free classics for a certain number of months. The selection is limited.

A better place to get classics is manybooks.net. They’re all free all the time and the selection is huge. Also, take a look at mobileread.com. All the experts are there. Many of them do conversions of books that are in the public domain. The results tend to be very high quality. Also, some books are there that are in the public domain elsewhere. It’s up to you whether to download them.

  3. Most are over US$10.

Will you consider to get the Amazon Kindle instead? Books are much cheaper there… Read here for what a person who has tried both the Sony Reader and the Amazon Kindle says:

And here are the best sellers on the Kindle store (Note: If you are not in the U.S., each book will be added US$2 to its price. But when you buy it you choose to download to PC and copy to the Kindle device, the US$2 will be waived):

Read an article here, it is the best review I’ve ever read about ebook readers, from a person who has tried different ebook readers including the Sony Reader:
