  • Classic Game Room HD – NEO-GEO CD console review

Posted by admin on June 13th, 2010 and filed under classic games | 25 Comments »

Classic Game Room HD reviews the SNK NEO-GEO CD from 1994. This CD version of the amazing Neo-Geo AES plays many of the same games in CD form. Plagued by awful loading times thanks to the 1x speed CD drive in the game system, the NeoGeo CD is the least popular Neo Geo out there but CGR thinks it is a good buy for those looking for SNK games and Japanese release for a better price. The Neo Geo CD has no region encoding and will play Japan region Japanese Neo Geo video games (I’ve only tested with an NTSC Neo Geo CD). The Neo Geo CD has composite video, S-Video and stereo audio. Plays audio CDs. Neo Geo CD consoles can be had for a fraction of the price that the Neo Geo AES and Neo-Geo MVS sell for. Games are usually much less money as well. This CGR review of the Neo Geo CD shows the game console in HD with numerous NeoGeo CD games.

Classic Game Room HD – ATARI 5200 Controller review part 2

Posted by admin on June 9th, 2010 and filed under classic parts | 25 Comments »

Part 2 of 2. Watch in high definition! Classic Game Room HD reviews the infamous ATARI 5200 controller for the Atari 5200 video game system from 1982. This analog controller with keypad is notorious for having problems nearly 30 years after its release. The innards fall to pieces, buttons stop working and the joystick is like mush. However if you want to play some awesome Atari 5200 games, and there is a huge complete list of amazing Atari 5200 games, then you’re pretty much stuck with the OEM stock Atari 5200 controller. You can buy parts to repair it yourself or purchase refurbished Atari 5200 controllers, and Wico made some aftermarket controllers, but those options are costly. Ignoring those major problems, how does the Atari 5200 controller stack up against other joysticks and controllers from video game consoles past and present? Watch the review for a complete technical presentation reviewing this piece of Atari history. Classic Game Room HD reviews joysticks and video game accessories for retro old school game systems and the new consoles like Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Classic Game Room HD – TIME SPLITTERS 2 on Nintendo Gamecube

Posted by admin on June 9th, 2010 and filed under classic games | 25 Comments »

Classic Game Room HD reviews TIME SPLITTERS 2 for the Nintendo Gamecube video game console. Thie Time Splitters 2 review shows gameplay from the game and explains why the Timesplitters series is one of the best video game series ever created. Cortez is back and badder than ever in the sequel to the amazing Time Splitters. Although TS2 is available on the Playstation 2 PS2, being that this is NINTENDO WEEK on Classic Game Room we picked up this Gamecube copy for $2.50 and love it! What a great deal on an excellent game! The Time Splitters games are from Free Radical, who should be hard at work on Time Splitters 4 by now for PS3 and Xbox 360 and maybe Wii. It is a science fiction, comedy, zombie, adventure, parody first person shooter FPS video game with loads of weapons from different time periods from the past and future. Use laser guns, tommy guns, plasma autorifles, revolvers and flamethrowers all in one game. Behead zombies, save maidens and invade the UFO base. Timesplitters 2 is in between Timesplitters 1 and Timesplitters Future Perfect (aka Time Splitters 3). It bridges the gap nicely, has the awesome multiplayer mode and looks outstanding on the Nintendo Gamecube. Many people think that the Gamecube version of this game is better than the PS2 version. CGR can’t recall much of a difference, it rocks on the Gamecube (CGR played it on the Nintendo Wii acting as a Gamecube using the standard Gamecube controller). If you have a Wii or Gamecube and want an affordable, fun shooter them this is your game. Lots of cool missions await you and there’s tons of exciting things to shoot in Time Splitters 2! Classic Game Room is the ultimate retro video game review show for classic games and old school gamers! Reviewing old school and new games since 1999. Sadly we don’t have a look at, trailer for or info about Time Splitters 4 but we hope to soon!

Classic Game Room HD – VIRTUA FIGHTER 2 for Sega Genesis review

Posted by admin on May 28th, 2010 and filed under classic games | 25 Comments »

Classic Game Room HD reviews VIRTUA FIGHTER 2 for the Sega Genesis from 1996. This 2D version of the popular Virtua Fighter 2 is very different yet very similar to the polygon-laden Sega Saturn version. The moves are similar, as is gameplay. A few characters are missing and the visuals are dramatically different but the game still kicks virtua ass. This CGR review of Virtua Fighter 2 on Sega Genesis (aka Sega Mega Drive) has gameplay from Virtua Fighter 2 on the 16-bit Sega Genesis showing Virtua Fighter 2 gameplay in HD action. This is a one or two player 1 or player fighting game that plays with a three or six button Sega Genesis (Megadrive) controller. Virtua Fighter 2 is easy to find and lots of fun.

Classic Game Room HD – DARKEST OF DAYS review Xbox 360

Posted by admin on May 18th, 2010 and filed under classic games | 25 Comments »

Classic Game Room HD reviews DARKEST OF DAYS for Xbox 360 where you fight your way through history in this very interesting and bizarre first person shooter! Ever wanted to tear through the American Civil War with a futuristic machine gun, or run through the trenches in WW1 with superballs that save people from being wiped out of time??? Well, if you can take the technical glitches and jerky gameplay then you may really dig Darkest of Days for Xbox 360. This CGR review of Darkest of Days has gameplay from this science fiction / historical shooter where you engage in combat during the Civil War, WW1, WW2 and more. Antique weapons and sci fi artillery are at your disposal, but not all at once. Darkest of Days may just be the weirdest FPS you’ll ever play with a lengthy storyline and odd animation scenes. It’s not for everyone, but for those who enjoyed the Highlander TV show or Quantum Leap it may be right up your alley.

Classic Game Room HD reviews TRANSFORMERS THE REVENGE OF THE FALLEN for Xbox 360, aka Transformers 2 review for Xbox 360. This is the same version that appears on PS3 / Playstation 3 also called Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. This CGRHD review of TRANSFORMERS 2 has gameplay footage from Xbox 360 in HD showing game play in Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. Published by Activision, there are numerous versions of this game available. This version, the 360 and PS3 version. Also the different Wii version, two different flavors (Autobot and Decepticon) available for Nintendo DS and a PSP variant of the game. Here on Xbox 360 the gameplay is fast and fun, you get to collect and play as numerous Transformers!!! Mighty robots, mighty machines…. or was that Go Bots…? More than meets the eye!! There we go, that’s Transformer lingo. Play two different campaigns, Autobot and Decepticon. The missions are broken into little chunks of explosions as you complete things in a race against the clock. Blow that up, shoot that thing, capture humans, etc… Play as Megatron, Optimus Prime, Starscream, Sideways or the lame-ass , goody-two shoes Autobots. Transformers 2 for Xbox 360 has XBLA support for multiplayer and leaderboards, it also has a free roam mode that you can unlock and roam around freely shooting tanker trucks. Fun, explosion packed and very well made, young and old fans of the series will find something to like in Transformers Revenge of the Fallen for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Classic Game Room HD – DARK VOID review

Posted by admin on May 2nd, 2010 and filed under classic games | 25 Comments »

Classic Game Room HD reviews DARK VOID for Playstation 3 PS3, also available for Xbox 360 and Windows PC. Welcome to rental city! Dark Void is an action adventure game that can’t decide whether it is a shooter or a flying game. The flight controls are terrible and bring down what is otherwise a very entertaining game. A mediocre combat system and interesting environments move a cool sci-fi story along about your character’s disappearance into the Bermuda Triangle and eventual adventure into the VOID. But can you handle the awkward jetpack controls and terrible flight system to see it to the end? Hooray for quicktime events (sarcasm). As much as Classic Game Room loves cheesy science fiction adventures this one lives up to its title. This CGR review of Dark Void from Capcom has gameplay from Dark Void showing Dark Void game play on PS3 Playstation 3 with gaming footage.

Classic Game Room HD – BEN 10 ALIEN FORCE for Wii review

Posted by admin on April 28th, 2010 and filed under classic games | 25 Comments »

Classic Game Room HD reviews BEN 10 ALIEN FORCE for Nintendo Wii video game console. Based on the popular Cartoon Network TV show, Ben 10 is a side scrolling beat ‘em up video game with a 3D style and multiple character changing gameplay elements. This CGRHD review of Ben 10 Alien Force has gameplay footage from Ben 10 Alien Force on Wii (also available on Nintendo DS), showing Spidermonkey at the Waterfall, how to use Big Chill and Jet Ray and Kevin and more. How does Ben 10 Alien Force compare to other side scroller beat em ups like Streets of Rage? Your character has an Omnitirix to change into monster or alien forms (whatever they are, I don’t watch the show). This is a fun game and sells at a value price, it may not be the best video game ever made but it keeps to a relatively faithful 2D side scrolling beatem up style while adding some new elements. Plays acceptably with the Wii controller and nunchuck. You can also disable the motion controls which is what I did. Ben 10 is rated E for everyone and is clearly a kids game, but older games looking for some new games on the Wii can find enjoyment with it as well. Classic Game Room HD reviews Wii games as a Wii reviewer reviewing games like Ben 10 Alien Force on Nintendo Wii published by D3.

Classic Game Room HD – SMASH CARS for Playstation 3 review

Posted by admin on April 26th, 2010 and filed under classic cars | 25 Comments »

Classic Game Room HD reviews SMASH CARS for Playstation 3 PS3. This download game from Playstation Network for the PS3 is like the modern day equivalent of RC Pro Am on the NES. Race remote controller cars around tracks full of obstacles, jumps and hazards. The gameplay is a cross between a Super Mario Kart “Kart” style racer and a demolition, combat racer like Fatal Inertia or Burnout Paradise. There are 3 different chassis to choose from and numerous RC car style bodies. Pull off tricks in the air to earn stars and nitrous boost. Fans of fun, outrageous racing games should check this one out, no simulation racing here. This CGR review of Smash Cars has gameplay from the PS3 video game Smash Cars showing game play video from Smash Cars in action on Playstation 3.
